The Cinema Designer releases TCD 2.0
The Cinema Designer (TCD) is the world’s leading software tool for home cinema design, used by home cinema design professionals worldwide. With its advanced technical calculations and intuitive workflow, TCD creates impeccable home cinema designs, in a matter of just minutes.
Founded in 2014 by leading home cinema designer Guy Singleton, TCD is committed to making home cinema design a standards driven process. TCD makes short work of the very complex and time-consuming work involved in creating a perfect home cinema design.

Since early 2022, when ownership of the software returned to its original creators, the TCD team has been working tirelessly to create a ground-up redesign.

New features include:
- New 3D model to build your cinema environment.

- Interactive speaker layouts which move real-time with the MLP location.
- New database features allowing the user / designer to add their own products for each design.
- New VR viewer inside the browser window in real-time.
- New CABS (double bass array) features.
- New acoustic treatment placement (within predetermined zones for absorption, diffusion, reflection, and bass management) (due April 2023)
- New TCD pro features – these features are for content creation spaces and production studios. (Due April 2023)

Over the coming weeks, Guy Singleton, creator of TCD, will host online training webinars for users of the tool. Aimed at small groups, Guy will introduce participants to the tool’s workflow, with a focus on the new features. The sessions are being filled on a first come, first served basis, and are filling up quickly. (To sign up for a session, users should email [email protected].)
Guy says: “TCD is committed to providing our users with the most advanced and intuitive tool for home cinema design. These new features are the result of our extensive redesign, and we believe they will make the home cinema design process even more efficient, enjoyable and profitable for our users.”
The new software has been well received by a number of stakeholders within the industry as well.
Daryl Friedman, global president and chief executive of CEDIA, says: “After viewing a demo of TCD 2.0, I am convinced that it will continue to revolutionize the industry, and CEDIA members will undoubtedly benefit from its new, game-changing features. CEDIA’s partnership with TCD enables our members to access to this exciting platform at a substantial cost reduction, and I look forward to personally working with Guy to champion this valuable member benefit within the CEDIA community.”
Trinnov global director of training, David Pedigo, adds: “We at Trinnov Audio strongly believe in The Cinema Designer and encourage all integrators to utilize it in your cinema and media room designs, regardless of size. TCD 2.0 is an immensely powerful tool providing technically accurate cinema design based on engineering and industry best practices.”
Finally, Mike Beatty, managing director of Pulse Cinemas, says his team was blown away by the new features and improvements to the software, saying it was hard to calculate how many hours of work it would save dealers around the world.
“Our aim is to now implement TCD alongside many of our other key services to ensure dealers have the capability of planning and installing the very best cinemas. With TCD on their side they can save hours of time creating an accurate blueprint for each project fast-tracking their work and providing them with increased capacity and operational speed.”
Almost 100 manufacturers are included in the tool, making it a powerful and indispensable resource for the industry.
Guy adds: “We are home cinema designers at heart; proud that TCD has revolutionised the design process and that, as a result, standards have increased across the board, which is great for designers, manufacturers, and end-users alike. We are now very excited to bring the TCD 2.0 enhancements to users, as we know that this takes TCD to a new level.”
