Smart Wiring… for the builder

Nearly a third of all new homes built in Australia-and roughly the same percentage of renovations-are now Smart Wired.

That’s a huge growth in just four years ago and a sign of how quickly Smart Wiring has made its mark on the Australian home market.

Smart Wiring is the acknowledged gold standard for a smart home, providing the backbone for data, communication and digital distribution at home.

It’s caught on because nothing beats wiring for efficiency, reliability, speed, security and technological capacity.

And that’s essential when it comes to linking computers, security cameras, TVs-or whatever-into a home network and distributing huge digital content.

Smart Wiring consists of Category 5 communications cabling and RG-6 coaxial cabling-the so-called “high speed” wires. Cat5 works for data like telephone or internet, and the RG-6 cable distributes all forms of video.

And once installed a house is ‘future proofed’-ready for whatever high tech gadget or trend that comes along.

While wireless is great for flexibility and convenience at home it can’t provide the security, performance or technological capacity that cables can. Which means it’s best as an add-on, and not your home’s only option.

In fact the predicted jump in broadband speeds almost dictates a Smart Wired solution at home due to the fact that it can handle speeds of up to 10 gigabits per second.

No wonder that Telstra has agreed that all the homes in their Telstra Smart and Velocity Communities-many of which will have optic fibre to the front door-should be Smart Wired.

Smart Wiring was designed to be flexible to fit varied circumstances, budgets and interests. A basic Smart Wired® package will provide multiple data options in a home and can cost as little as $3,000.

Of course fully automated home control systems can cost a lot more and, like everything, is dictated by the sort of hardware a homeowner chooses for things like speakers, screens, applications and appliances.

But once installed-either in a new build or during renovations-then it is simple to add new features or home control options.
