Shining a light on better sleep
Melbourne smart lighting company LIFX is tackling the issue of sleep health with its circadian lighting feature, Day & Dusk, which is designed to help users regulate their body clock.
The National Inquiry into Australia’s Sleep Health recently placed sleep as the third pillar of health alongside diet and exercise. In addition to that, the Sleep Health Foundation believes that four out of 10 Australians don’t get sufficient sleep either daily or on several days a week.

LIFX co-founder and group chief technical officer Marc Alexander says Day & Dusk was developed in response to consumers seeking wellness technology for their home.
“We’re seeing people the world over look to technology to feel better, workout better and sleep better. It is these kinds of developments that are forging a new trend. As smart homes become the norm, we are seeing consumers take one step further to curate a ‘well home’ – a living space designed to enhance health and wellbeing, incorporating innovative technology such as smart lighting to help them improve the way they feel.”
He points out that most people know about the harm mobile phone light causes to sleep cycles but says that many do not consider the effect the lighting in their bedroom might be having.
“LIFX can make an impact on a vital piece of the sleep puzzle – light. Day & Dusk helps users feel ready for bed, and wake up to soft light as nature intended.”
