Robe lighting a hit for live stream
Czech lighting company Robe, which is distributed in Australia by Jands, played a big part in creating a live entertainment stream in Melbourne.
‘Delivered Live’ is a weekly music and comedy performance concept streamed live-and-direct from Melbourne. It is the brainchild of Handshake Management, rental and production company Harry The Hirer Productions, and the Victorian State Government.

Hosted in Harry The Hirer Productions’ HQ, The Studio in Richmond, the lighting was designed by Marcus Pugh.
Harry The Hirer had already invested in some Robe moving lights last year, namely four ESPRITES and eight MegaPointes. Further purchases included 24 ESPRITES, 24 MegaPointes and two RoboSpot systems from Robe’s local distributor Jands.
Audio and LED screens were supplied by Harry The Hirer with cameras and operators sourced from Small Time TV.
Due to social distancing, only ten people were allowed in the studio at any one time. A special stage, allowing for a maximum of six people, was split into sections by LED tubes.
The lighting design was upped for the second with eight MegaPointes and four ESPRITES improving the lighting on camera tenfold. Six of the MegaPointes were hung in the roof upstage with the other two poking through gaps in a series of staggered LED panels flanking both sides of the stage.
The ESPRITES at the back of the stage were used for back lighting and some big, bold up-lighting shots.
Marcus relished being able to change up the CTO quickly and easily, and “evoke such a nice and detailed range of pastels”.
“I was shifting between three or four intricately constructed looks and scenes on average per song,” he explained, adding that he was impressed by the ESPRITE’s 5.5-50-degree zoom range.
“The optics are great, and while I didn’t need to use the beam-shaping, it’s been solid on other shows, features like prism overlay were useful and the gobo selection is excellent for both breakups and aerials.”
