CEDIA’s latest white paper release, WiFi 6 (802.11ax): High Efficiency WiFi dives into the new WiFi 6 standard that has been designed to address some of the most prevalent wireless networking issues and provide high efficiency WiFi.

As the latest wireless networking standard, it brings more than just a new naming convention and is fundamentally different to all previous standards. WiFi 6 promises higher data rates, more robust connections and simultaneous data reception or transmission between multiple access points and devices.

“Now more than ever, homeowners expect their technology and their WiFi to work seamlessly,” CEDIA senior director of technology and standards Walt Zerbe says.

“In addition to providing increased data rates, WiFi 6 will be able to support more users. The new white paper provides CEDIA members with the guidance they need to prepare for this technological evolution on their projects and to design systems to the new standard.”

CEDIA recently hosted a webinar on this topic, dubbed ‘WiFi 6: The Next Generation in Wi-Fi,’ which complements this white paper. This webinar is available now on YouTube.

“It’s hard to overstate the popularity and importance of this topic; it is going to have far reaching effects for all CEDIA members and their clients,” Walt adds.

“Besides the improved performance and new features of WiFi 6, we have a new sales opportunity with the new naming conventions. The shift from difficult-to-convey names such as 802.11N and 802.11AX to friendlier names such as WiFi 5 and WiFi 6, combined with the new on-device logo approach will finally stir up demand from customers for network upgrades.”
