Melbourne-based integrator Smart Automation Systems has merged with a number of other companies to form Smart Urban Properties Australia Ltd (SUPA), a new entity that stakeholders say is the country’s first unified converged services provider for multi-occupancy precincts and properties.

The company’s tenant facing building platform connecX, first founded in 2020 as a joint pilot project with Lendlease and Amazon, is part of the merger, which also includes bEnergy, Fibrecorp, and Epsilon Security.

Funds raised provide working capital to grow and deliver SUPA’s contracted pipeline of projects, while the business prepares for an expected IPO on the ASX planned for early 2024.

Through three new operating divisions of SUPA Energy, SUPA Networks and SUPA Tech, SUPA is bringing renewables and mobility; super-fast fibre and communications infrastructure; integrated in-building technologies, platforms and apps together to create smarter, safer, and more sustainable multi-occupancy properties.

SUPA Tech’s general manager for smart buildings, Paul Detering, says: “In coming together to form SUPA, Smart Automation Systems intends to now operate as SUPA Tech, and will focus on improving the lifestyles of the communities we serve by delivering inspiring buildings and occupier experiences.”

Paul adds: “While we might look different as SUPA Tech, importantly, for our customers, our partners and our people; the directors, management and team at Smart Automation Systems and connecX remain the same.

“It’s business as usual with the benefit of Smart Automation now being part of a much larger, like-minded company able to provide expanded services, greater value and elevated experiences.”

The connecX platform is expected to expand significantly and will be included in all major SUPA opportunities as standard.
