Barco returned to the Integrate 2022 show, treating onlookers to a demonstration of the TruePix video wall as well as the award-winning Barco UniSee platform, UDM-4K22 (compact three-chip laser projector) and G100-W22 (single-chip high brightness projector) among others.

Sander Buys, Barco product manager, LED, walked me through a demonstration of the innovative, patented video wall technology. He preached the importance of not only providing a high-quality image but ensuring the product stayed on as consistently as possible.

“We can go really far in control room markets where the real estate is typically low but the image needs to be crisp,” Sander says.

“But also, in corporate, meeting rooms and broadcast settings, our maintenance technology ensures integrators can get into the video wall with minimal disruptions.”

Each panel on the video wall can be individually removed with the unique locking mechanism. One of the best parts of this is that the rest of the video keeps running just like usual. Since the panels aren’t daisy-chained like other video wall solutions, a disruption in a small section doesn’t cut off data to other parts.

Barco managing director, Australia and New Zealand, Claudio Cardile, says the company looked at video walls as an entire end-to-end solution.

“We asked, how does it get installed? How does it get maintained as it gets service? We took a ground-up approach and said: Okay, let’s look at how you deliver it as a system, what do you need to use it up to the component policy display, considering future requirements and so on.

“The big piece was around the engineering and thanks to the way the panels can be popped on and off, it’s much easier to install, much faster fix and easier to maintain.”

He says that LED installations are getting bigger and better but so is the price of investment. Barco is looking at the product as a long-term proposition and looking at return on investment.

Another benefit of the Barco video walls for control room/security settings is its TAA compliance. Over half of the video wall is manufactured in a TAA-designated country, unlike some other manufacturers in this same space.

“The response so far has been exceptional in Australia,” Claudio explains.

“We’ve rolled out the video wall and projector solutions in various projects across the country so far and we have a few more on the horizon.”
