Altronics shows that Aussie manufacturing is still alive
The Altronics Distributors stand at Integrate 2022 was most notable for displaying its own, Redback-branded professional audio products. Brian Sorensen, general manager of product development told us that Redback: “Is proudly designed and manufactured here in Australia – so manufacturing in Australia is not 100% dead!” Nonetheless, he stressed that Altronics is still a distributor that primarily sells to channel and not the end user.
Brian told us of additional benefits of being a local manufacturer that visits trade shows: “We have a loyal customer base that will buy our stuff. Being local, we can answer questions and possibly make changes that will feature in future products.”

“These guys for example [points to other visitors to the stand] have asked us questions about incorporating new features into our new products and, while we might not be able to get that done straight away, we can potentially change the software and incorporate what they’re after.”
He added that the end-user doesn’t necessarily know what they want and that talking directly to the installers’ is key.
While each of Altronics’ State locations has seen staff be able to get out and see individual customers, he hasn’t been able to see many. Consequently, Integrate was a great opportunity to catch up as well as find new customers.
As for the products themselves, Sorensen told us that the main, new items they were pushing (that had only recently been developed) were the new Redback Audio Matrix multiple-in-multiple-out audio switchers, designed for pubs, clubs and restaurants.
Available in 4-in-4-out (model: A4450), 4-in-8-out (A4462) and 12-in-16-out (A4650), these switchers include individual zone plate controls, emergency call paging and up to eight, LCD paging consoles. They can also be operated via touchscreen wallplate control pads. The larger A4650 model also suits larger RSL clubs and convention centres with Redback stating, “Intuitive control requires no complex user training.”
