Yamaha RX-V371

Connectivity with the iPod and iPhone is paramount with the popularity of these devices. Yamaha has acknowledged this and provides integration from the RX-V371 entry model via the optional YDS-12 dock. Adding the dock provides complete navigation of an iPod or iPhone using the receiver’s remote control.

From the RX-V471 and above, direct USB connection for the iPod/iPhone is supported. Attach the white cable supplied with the iPod/iPhone/iPad to the USB input on the front of the receiver to instantly playback music. Because the digital signal from the iPod is transmitted directly to the AV receiver, noise interference is minimised and sound quality is much better. The RX-V471 and above also offer a Graphical User Interface (GUI), allowing navigation of iPod content via the television with the ability to also display album artwork. The GUI will overlay existing video material such as a Blu-ray movie.

Further demonstrating seamless integration, the HDMI inputs on the ’71 Series AV receivers all support 3D pass through, Audio Return Channel (ARC) with TV manufacturers and Consumer Electronics Control (CEC) support, providing seamless integration with 3rd party products. The RX-V371 and RX-V471 have four HDMI inputs while the RX-V571 has no less than six HDMI inputs, including one on the front panel for convenient connection to a video camcorder or digital SLR camera.

As the AV receiver becomes commonplace in the home of mum’s and dad’s and not just the technology savvy users, providing simple operation is paramount. Yamaha has a focused on this in 2011 with features such as SCENE now compatible with CEC and HDMI Device Control.

Yamaha’s SCENE function, on all the new ’71 series models, provides one-touch activation of the AV receiver. However combined with CEC operation it now activates an entire AV home entertainment system. Pressing the BD SCENE button on the Yamaha remote control not only activates the receiver, it passes CEC commands to a 3rd party Blu-ray player and flat panel television to turn on and begin playback (Blu-ray player)/change to the correct HDMI input (flat panel television). Further, by incorporating HDMI Device Control, the Yamaha remote will now navigate the content on the disc of a 3rd party Blu-ray player while also allowing operations such as fast-forward or pausing the disc
without needing to input the preset remote control codes. The entire AV system is now being operated by the Yamaha remote control.

In addition to these operational features, each model comes with Yamaha Parametric Acoustic Room Optimiser (YPAO) automatic calibration. YPAO measures speaker size and capacity along with room and acoustic measurements to ensure the ultimate surround performance at the listener’s position.

Each receiver offers powerful surround sound. The RX-V371 provides 5.1 channels of surround sound with 100W through each channel. The RX-V471 produces 105W over each of the five channels while the RX-V571 has 7.1 channels rated at 105W per channel. Burr-Brown 192 kHz/24-bit DACs for all channels and HD Audio format decoding combine to produce clear and dynamic sound every time, from all sources.

3D CINEMA DSP with virtual presence speakers is also included on the RX-V471 and RX-V571. Adding height and depth to the front sound stage, 3D CINEMA DSP delivers an enhanced audio experience, demonstrating Yamaha’s commitment to premium sound.

Quality video reproduction on the RX-V371 and RX-V471 is achieved through 1080p-compatiblity via HDMI, supporting Deep Colour (30/36 bit), x.v.Colour, 24 Hz Refresh Rate and Auto Lip-Sync compensation. The RXV571 has both analogue and HDMI video upscaling to full HD 1080p from sources such as DVD.

These three receivers form the hub of Yamaha’s new home theatre packages, each one designed with a different consumer in mind. The entry RX-V371 receiver is in the YHT-296 and YHT-696AU packs, the RXV471 receiver is in the YHT-396AU, YHT-496AU and YHT-796AU packs, while the RX-V571 powers the YHT-596AU and YHT-896AU 7.1 channel packs.
