Wolf Cinema, a leading provider of reference-level home cinema projection systems and Best Practice Laboratory for Entertainment Technology (BPL), located within Hollywood’s famed Raleigh Studios, have teamed up to deliver stunning HD images in two of the facility’s popular screening rooms, aptly named in honor of two of the film
industry’s most legendary actors, Mary Pickford and Douglas Fairbanks Sr.

The Best Practices Laboratory is an independent group that provides the entertainment industry with an environment to showcase the very latest technologies for the creation, distribution and exhibition of high value entertainment content. Some of the entertainment industry’s latest technologies are on permanent display at Raleigh Studios, where member companies can collaborate on emerging cinema standards, updated business trends, new visual arts technologies, and more.

In addition to Wolf Cinema, BPL members include Adobe Systems, HP and many others. Members can take advantage of BPL’s historic Raleigh Studios location to host conferences, demonstrate new products, and schedule other events.

As the longest continuously operating studio in the country, Raleigh Studios has played a central role in supporting the modern entertainment industry. Raleigh’s Hollywood facility commenced operations in 1915 as Famous Players Fiction Studios, with a Mary Pickford production – one of the first features to be filmed on this historic Hollywood lot. The facility also boasted one of the world’s first sound stages – complete with a glass roof so light could enter without disrupting sound recording. Raleigh Enterprises purchased the studio in 1979 and immediately launched a comprehensive renovation of its historic buildings. As part of an extensive master plan that added modern new sound stages, support facilities and offices to the lot, the refurbishment of the studio ensured the preservation of the best of its Hollywood traditions, while insuring a long term commitment to the next generation masters in film, television and commercial production. With the state-of the art Wolf Cinema technology, BPL writes the latest chapter in the long tradition of cinematic innovation at Raleigh Studios.

“Little did we realize that Wolf Cinema projectors would ultimately be positioned in such historic venues for all to enjoy,” says Sumiko, parent of Wolf CInema president John Hunter.

“We of course jumped at the opportunity to be a part of this remarkable cinema experience. Our projectors are now used to screen Hollywood’s latest consumer releases, played on equipment and with source content identical to the gear found in today’s reference home cinema systems. All of us at Wolf Cinema are extremely proud to be a key partner in this amazing technology group, where new ground is being broken daily in the art of cinematography.”

“In our advisory role to the greater media and entertainment industry, but also as home theatre enthusiasts, we were looking for that special home theatre projection partner that understood how to accurately replicate the cinema experience at home,” says Best Practices Laboratory chairman David Haines.

“After reviewing the multitude of home products – some good, some not so good – we discovered the folks at Wolf Cinema, whose products capture the art and essence of filmmaking itself.”

The ‘Fairbanks’ screening room, comfortably seats 36, and can play back various types of digital and filmed content. A Wolf Cinema DCX-1000i projector is used to play back pre-recorded high definition discs, broadcast streams, and other HD content.

The ‘Pickford’ screening room, seats 38 and boasts a Wolf Cinema DCX-1500i. Each of the Wolf projectors has been matched with a Studiotek 100 screen from another BPL Member company, Stewart Filmscreen, to offer the most pristine 1080P viewing experience available today.
