What is IP control/remote monitoring?

Since most computers and networking devices are IP based, the term typically refers to equipment that has not traditionally been controlled over a network such as an AV receiver or HDTV.

One useful feature of IP control extends into remote monitoring, which allows an individual to “link in” to their home through the internet, or even their smartphone. For example, security conscious homeowners have taken advantage of this technology to use sensors to trigger alerts or webcams when intruders enter their premises, providing instant notification or even images of unwanted visitors on their computers, PDAs or mobile phones.

These traditional security technologies are also being adapted to look out for people as well as property. The assistive living market in particular is adapting monitoring technology to help elderly or disabled people live independent lives while still having family or health care professionals monitor their health from a distance. And parents who can’t always be there to keep an eye on the kids when they get home from school. Through IP control and remote monitoring, you don’t have to worry about physically being at home in order to control and oversee your property and family.
