The company has transitioned its entire line to embrace cloud computing, delivering its software and services over the internet and eliminating the need for costly and complex on-site equipment.

Switch chief executive Deb Noller says cloud computing makes home automation simpler, more affordable and removes the last barriers between the technology and the mainstream market.

“No more bulky equipment to store or maintain, no more repeated and expensive visits from technicians, no more worrying about your system becoming obsolete.”

“You just hop online, choose the services you want, and sit back. Updates and improvements happen automatically, and you can add or remove functions at any time.”

Cloud-computing has been transforming a range of industries over the last five years, as more people see the benefits of using software over the internet, without the need to worry about installation, backups or upgrades. Microsoft has just launched a cloud version of its popular Office suite of applications, and commentators are widely touting it as the future of computing.

Switch Automation has used the cloud model successfully in multi-residential projects, allowing developers to offer services to residents without the expense of installing them in every apartment. Noller says extending cloud technology to the home market represents the future of the industry.

“We’re incredibly excited to be the first in the market with such an offering. Cloud computing is definitely the direction things are heading in, I have no doubt others will eventually follow our lead.”
