IT-012 presents four recommendations to encourage and promote the uptake and implementation of standards to support a cyber-secure nation.
The four recommendations are adopting international standards for digital technologies, supporting industry engagement in standards development and raising awareness and understanding of cyber security standards among businesses.
Australian businesses and citizens are impacted by cybercrime every six minutes, while ransomware alone accumulates up to $3 billion in annual damages to the Australian economy.
These challenges are what pushed the development of IT-102, the cyber security standards position paper, in an emphasis on the need for robust cyber security practices as the world becomes increasingly interconnected.
Standards set best practices that aim to promote data security, ensure global compatibility and protect digital products and build consumer trust.
The paper calls upon investment from both private and public sectors, and Standards Australia, the Australian government and industry to work together to boost national cyber security and resilience.
