“AI is growing exponentially in our everyday and professional lives. This transformative technology is changing the way we live and work, as such, we must ensure some guardrails and standards support its use,” Standards Australia chief operations officer Kareen Riley-Takos says.
“Trust in AI is crucial for its successful implementation and positive impact. Our publication of the first international AI management system standard is the first step in supporting organisations to utilise AI effectively and responsibly.”
The first of its kind globally, AS ISO/IEC 42001:2023 outlines internal governance and risk management, to support AI development, build business confidence internally and externally and provide a route for regulatory compliance, balancing innovation with governance.
Its key outputs for organisations include:
- A framework for managing risks and opportunities.
- Demonstrated responsible use of AI.
- Traceability, transparency and reliability.
- Efficiency gains.
- Confidence in the internal management of AI systems.
In summary, AS ISO/IEC 42001:2023 provides organisations with a roadmap for responsible and effective AI system development and management. By adhering to this standard, companies can enhance their AI applications, reduce development costs and ensure regulatory compliance.
Standards Australia will be offering a training course for organisations and individuals who wish to learn more about the standard and implement it within their business. More information and registration for the course can be found on the Standards Australia website.
