Sony Electronics introduces two new 4K HDR TV seriesSony Electronics has announced an expansion of its 4K HDR TV line-up with the new A-series BRAVIA OLED and X-series LED TVs.

The new XBR-A1E BRAVIA OLED series features eight million self-illuminating pixels to bring deep black levels, rich colour, dynamic contrast, blur-less image and a wide viewing angle. It also features a new Acoustic Surface sound technology developed by Sony, which combines with OLED’s backlight-less structure to allow a wide sound and image synchronisation from all angles. This creates a stand-less form factor with no distraction from the picture, doing away with conventional speakers usually located around the TV.

“Sony continues to make consumer choice a priority especially for those seeking the very best viewing experience, and we are proud to introduce our new XBR-A1E BRAVIA OLED series. Sony delivers incredible innovation and excitement to customers with all of our premium 4K HDR TVs through a powerful mix of technology and our exclusive image processing,” said Sony Electronics president and chief operating officer Mike Fasulo.

The new X series, X930E/X940E, features LED backlight driving technology and the X1 Extreme processor, Slim Backlight Drive+.

The Slim Backlight Drive+ is an evolution of Slim Backlight Drive, featuring an improved grid-array backlighting system in a slim form factor that allows for even more precise local dimming control. It has a quad-edge LED structure and X-tended Dynamic Range PRO local dimming and boosting technology to deliver ten times the XDR contrast of conventional LED TV.

The XBR-X930E/X940E series also features the 4K HDR processor X1 Extreme, which offers 40% more real-time processing power than Sony’s 4K processor X1.

Both the A-series and X-series will support Dolby Vision, are compatible with Google Home and will be powered by Android TV. This will allow access to PlayStation, Vue, a live TV streaming service of premium content, and Ultra, a 4K HDR streaming service.
