The Sony TV – the BRAVIA WE5 – has been designed with unique energy-saving features, such as the “Presence Sensor” that automatically turns off the TV when no one is detected in the room.

This eco-friendly new BRAVIA model is digital ready and the ideal choice in preparing for the digital switchover. Awarded five energy stars (for the KDL46WE5 model), the WE5 reduces power consumption without compromising on picture quality.

“The WE5 consumes less power than two typical (75W) light bulbs, which translates into both significant cost and also energy savings for those consumers who have an eye on their environmental footprint,” said Jan Ergen, Product Manager for Visual Display at Sony Australia.

“With the digital switchover looming, the WE5 provides a more environmentally aware choice for consumers that want to upgrade to a high definition TV.”

One of most energy-efficient HD televisions available, the BRAVIA WE5 consumes over 50 per cent less power than its predecessor and is available in two sizes (40 inch, 46 inch).

Arron Wood, the Prime Minister’s Environmentalist of the Year in 2007, said, “Our environment is precious, but our cities are growing quickly, consuming evermore resources, water and energy. It is vital that business and industry lead the way in developing environmental technology that allows us to do more with less. Every individual must understand that it is within our power to reduce our personal energy consumption. Through innovation, education and by taking action, we can secure
a bright and compelling future for generations to come.”

Presence Sensor: Out of sight, out of picture
The intelligent Presence Sensor function detects body heat and movement is able to sense when a viewer has left the room, automatically turning the TV picture off. This instantly reduces power consumption by 50 per cent. If the viewer re-enters the room, the Presence Sensor automatically switches the TV picture back on. Similar to a computer standby mode, the Presence Sensor can also be set to switch to Picture Off mode after a certain period of time, such as 30 minutes.

Energy Saving Switch
The BRAVIA WE5 has a conveniently located Energy Saving Switch that lets you shut off the TV’s power, without having to unplug the AC cord from the mains. This cuts standby mode power consumption to less than 0.0001W.

World’s first microtubular HCFL backlight
The HCFL backlight panel uses up to 40 percent1 less energy when users are watching TV, thus achieving lower power consumption while maintaining the same level of brightness, when compared to conventional cold cathode fluorescent LCD TVs.

Ambient Light Sensor technology is incorporated to automatically adjust picture settings based on the viewing environment, to maintain optimal brightness and
conserve energy. A pre-set Eco setting allows viewers to watch TV at minimal energy consumption.

During production of the WE5, lead-free solder and environmentally safe chemicals were used, as are 100% recycled materials for its packaging.

Enhanced picture quality Aside from its eco credentials, Sony has equally enhanced the performance of this LCD TV to deliver effortless picture performance through the inclusion of Full HD image display capabilities, Motionflow 100Hz technology, enhanced BRAVIA Engine 3 processor and Live Colour technology.

Motionflow 100Hz technology with Image Blur Reduction doubles the displayed frame rate for smoother, sharper sports and fast-moving action scenes.

BRAVIA Engine 3 is Sony’s new high definition video processor that reproduces vibrant colours at optimal contrast for each scene. Live Colour technology is incorporated to reproduce the stunning colours of nature more vividly, through optimal colour tuning and purity.

The BRAVIA WE5 series displays at Full HD 1920 x 1080 resolution and this allows for finer detail, texture and image depth to be displayed on screen. Motionflow 100Hz technology with Image Blur Reduction doubles the displayed frame rate for smoother, sharper sports and fast-moving action scenes.

For further audio visual enhancements, other popular BRAVIA technologies in the WE5 series include 24P True Cinema, which reproduces frames at the same speed as the original film source, and S-Force Front Surround Sound, for simulated surround sound from the TV speakers.

The WE5 series remote can be used to control your entire home theatre system, thanks to BRAVIA Sync technology and the TV is DLNA-certified, which allows users to wirelessly enjoy movies, photos and music stored on other DLNA-certified products, such as a digital camera, mobile phone or PC, on the TV. The WE5 includes four HDMI inputs, an Ethernet connection and one USB port.
