Sonos launches Amp Multi to simplify and scale multi-zone residential audio systems

Sonos has unveiled the Amp Multi, a multi-channel streaming amplifier designed to simplify and scale complex residential audio installations.

Amp Multi aims to address the growing demand for flexible, multi-zone audio in open-plan and mixed-use residential spaces. The amplifier features eight amplified outputs delivering 125W each at 8Ω and supports up to four configurable zones, allowing integrators to tailor systems to evolving home designs without adding unnecessary complexity.

“Sonos Amp is the most widely used two-channel streaming amplifier in residential installation because it’s powerful, dependable and intuitive. Amp Multi takes that same philosophy and applies it to larger systems. It makes ambitious designs more efficient to build and install and easier to live with,” Sonos chief executive Tom Conrad says.

Amp Multi combines Sonos’ streaming platform and app-based control with a professional-grade architecture that allows any output to be assigned to any zone. Systems can scale by adding multiple units, while each output can drive up to three Sonos Architectural speakers, supporting dense, multi-room installations without compromising performance or reliability.

At the hardware level, Amp Multi uses a gallium nitride (GaN) power architecture with Class-D post-filter feedback, delivering clean, controlled sound with improved thermal efficiency. The fanless, convection-cooled design enables silent operation and long-term stability, even in high speaker-count systems.

Designed for rack-based installations, Amp Multi features a 1.5U chassis and is compatible with a dedicated 2U rack mount that provides built-in ventilation space. A flat-back design and recessed connectors allow the unit to stand upright during installation, streamlining rack builds and cable management.

Setup is handled through the Sonos app, with each unit emitting a unique audible chirp to simplify identification in equipment racks. Integrators can also access advanced tuning tools, including the new ProTune manual optimisation feature, which provides granular control over EQ, gain, width and delay for each output.
