According to GfK data, Samsung has achieved the highest level of combined value sales across its four biggest AV categories – panel TV, digital camera, portable media player and DVD/Blu-ray player market – from May 2009 through April 2010.

While Samsung has excelled within each of its competitive business categories, the area of AV products has been the most successful for the company. Comparing May 2008 to April 2009 and May 2009 to April 2010 value sales, the Samsung brand has grown by 27% for these categories.

This compares with a growth rate of only 3% for the market as a whole. Based on value sales from May 2009 to April 2010, Samsung commands in excess of 20% of this market – a testament to the company’s success in the fiercely competitive TV sub-category. During this time, Samsung has achieved over $980 million in Australian retail sales in these four categories alone.

Samsung is also hoping to maintain this momentum in 2010 with the launch of its full HD 3D TV sets.

Samsung head of corporate marketing Lambro Skropidis says, “It’s exciting to see the Samsung brand enjoying so much consumer support. Our tracking data shows that consumer awareness and preference for our brand has been continuing to build from year to year. The ultimate expression of consumer support is seeing preference translate into higher levels of sales at the store level.”
