The Swiss electrical supplier, Reichle & De-Massari AG (R&M) has participated in the founding of the Single Pair Ethernet (SPE) Alliance. It joins Phoenix Contact, Weidmüller, Fluke Networks and Telegärtner as the alliance aims to bundle and exchange SPE expertise and knowledge in a targeted manner.

The group’s current main goal is to drive development of SPE for Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) and collaborate on related technological challenges. It’s also aiming to accelerate the development of SPE technology expertise, ensuring it can be implemented in the company’s products faster and more reliably.

With a large range of companies in the alliance, a wide range of industries, applications and application areas are covered.

SPE, based on xBASE-T1, uses a single twisted pair for data transmission and miniaturised connectors. It can replace the traditional field bus which helps realise high density, fast connections and ease of installation.

It offers uniform manufacturer-independent connectivity instead of introducing connectivity for each application. Ranges of up to 1,000m and transmission speeds of up to 1Gbps enable use across applications, and installation is fast and easy, aiming to reuse and extend existing cable installations.
