Quad 9AS loudspeaker
Quad’s latest product offering is the 9AS – a compact active speaker combining top-notch build quality, excellent audio engineering and exceptional flexibility suited to a wide range of high-resolution audio applications, and is just as suited to desktops and studios as they are to living rooms.
First and foremost, Quad 9AS is a high-performance compact loudspeaker, small enough to sit on a desk or shelf, yet large enough to deliver powerful and detailed high-resolution sound. Easily attaining the sonic accuracy required of a near-field studio monitor, the 9AS displays its heritage with its smooth frequency response, supplemented by a three-position bass EQ facility that equalises the low-frequency response for free standing, shelf and close-to-wall mounting. You can be sure that wherever these speakers are used; at home or in a studio environment, they will deliver crisp, clear and musically insightful results.
The Quad 9AS offers a remarkably wide range of inputs to suit most source components, from PCs, Apple Macs and portable audio devices, to traditional hi-fi components. Digital connections are provided via asynchronous USB and S/PDIF (optical and coaxial) capable of decoding audio data up to 24-bit/192kHz, while the line-level RCA inputs for analogue signals including a side-mounted 3.5mm input, providing convenient connection to traditional and portable audio devices.

Both the ‘master’ and ‘slave’ in the 9AS pair are independently powered and each house two amplifiers totalling 100W of audiophile-grade Class AB power amplification (significantly higher quality than the Class D amplification found in many active speakers). Power is delivered The master speaker accepts all inputs and controls volume and input selection via a neat touch sensitive panel on the base of the speaker (a remote control is also supplied), and unlike other active speaker designs which house the electronics within the speaker cabinet, the Quad 9AS houses all active components within an extruded aluminium case that sits underneath the cabinet itself.
Signal to the slave speaker is provided by a line level connection from the master speaker, and an output for an external subwoofer is also provided by the master speaker, facilitating ultra-low frequency extension where required – Quadʼs recently launched, compact yet powerful L-ite Plus Subwoofer is a perfect match, both aesthetically and sonically.
The inclusion of a fully featured Pre-amplifier that includes both analogue and digital inputs, a high resolution DAC and Power amplifiers turns the Quad 9AS into a complete, highly compact audiophile audio system that delivers obvious space saving advantages, versatility and high resolution sound; all from a compact design measuring a mere 302mm in height.
