It takes courage and conviction to design what’s best, rather than merely to follow fashion trends or high-tech break-throughs – this is more than a slogan from PSB founder Paul Barton.

With this philosophy in mind, the four models in the Imagine Series may well be the finest visual presentation for, proportion, sculptural form and visual detail since PSB’s flagship Synchrony line-up.

The Imagine Series consists of the Imagine T, a three driver, two-way, full range floor standing design, Imagine B, a two-way, bookshelf front channel/stereo playback speaker system, Imagine C, a dual-woofer, two-way centre channel speaker and the Imagine S, a two-way selectable dipole/bipole/dual channel monopole surround sound loudspeaker.

All four Imagine models share a common driver with a high performance, high output 5.25 inch (135mm) woofer and wideband, ultra accurate, titanium dome one inch tweeter, inspired by the amazing performance of the Synchrony high frequency model.

The PSB Imagine woofers incorporate injection moulded diaphragms of a proprietary, ceramic filled polypropylene that delivers a unique union of stiffness, inherent internal damping and amazing low mass. The highly efficient motor system’s unique compound magnet structure forces the driver into delivering higher sensitivity at declining frequencies, effectively extending the response.

The combination of the woofers moulded polycarbonate basket contributes ideal stiffness and aerodynamics with the cabinet’s impressively solid acoustically inert 7- layer laminated construction yielding dramatically clean fast bass and uncoloured midrange in a visually elegant curved form. The result is a quartet of enclosures that rival PSB’s flagship Synchrony line for acoustical performance and whose smooth, seamless, unbroken surfaces present a simple, beautifully integrated visual form.

A unique compound curve on every vertical face and heavily internal bracing makes each Imagine enclosure impressively solid, acoustically inert, and able to produce singularly smooth, ripple-free high frequency response and carefully calculated horizontal dispersion.

The Imagine tweeter, also common to all models, exploits an advanced, highly linear and efficient magnetic design that extends output at both frequency extremes for effortless higher octaves and smooth uncoloured response throughout the critical crossover region.

Equally important in the Imagine design is the crossovers. Like nearly every PSB speaker design, the Imagine networks employ fourth order acoustic Linkwitz-Reilly topology, together with heavy duty all metal multi-way binding posts that facilitate bi-wiring or bi-amplifying. Imagine’s final journey from prototypes to finished loudspeaker relied heavily on studies conducted at the NRC’s anechoic chamber and listening studio facilities.

All four models are offered in a choice of Black Ash or Dark Cherry high grade veneers, meticulously ‘cathedral’ matched, hand-finished and detailed to a superb satin finish.

• Imagine C Centre, 7 ½ “ (191mm) 150 watt, 2-way, 3 speaker centre channel system, RRP $999 each.
• Imagine S Surround, 12 ½ “ (321mm) 150 watt, 2-way, 4 speaker surround system, RRP $1,499 a pair.
