Onkyo, which is distributed by Amber Technology, has announced a firmware update that activates Chromecast built-in on selected Onkyo home theatre and hi-fi components built during or after 2016.

This includes models PR-RZ5100, TX-RZ3100, TX-RZ1100, TX-RZ810, TX-RZ710, TX-NR676E, TX-NR656, TX-NR575E, TX-NR555, TX-NR474, HT-S7800, TX-8270, TX-L20D, LS7200, LS5200, R-N855, NS-6170, NS-6130, and NCP-302.

Chromecast built-in is an audio streaming platform that allows users to share a wide selection of music, digital radio, podcasts and other programs from popular Chromecast-enabled apps to Onkyo home entertainment systems. It allows the use of other apps while streaming music, enabling users to answer calls, send emails or play games without interrupting audio playback.

To enjoy stable streaming with less buffering and fewer dropouts, operating over 5 GHz/2.4GHz WiFi, users tap or click on the icon in Chromecast enabled apps and audio is sent wirelessly to the receiver or speaker system instantly.

Chromecast built-in is supported by iPad, iPhone, iPod touch, Android phones and tablets, Chromebook and Chrome browsers on Mac, Windows and Linux PCs. The platform enables streaming of single or multiple audio sources to other Chromecast-enabled speakers simultaneously.

There is no special device setup, password entry or pairing process required to connect and stream via Chromecast built-in, as long as both the receiver and device are connected to the same WiFi network.
