As residential technology continues to move from discrete systems for computing, communication, control, and entertainment to much more powerful, integrated digital systems, these systems become exponentially more difficult to monitor and maintain. This difficulty is caused by a number of factors including the convergence of digital computing technology with home control and entertainment, a dramatic increase in the sources of entertainment media, the emergence of smart technologies as well as increased reliance on software. These changes have increased the complexity in the digital home and created the need for an easy-to-use, easy-to-install, next generation remote monitoring and management solution.

According to the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA), the consumer electronics industry is projected to see industry shipment revenues climb four percent to an all-time high of more than $182 billion by 2011. This industry growth will further fuel the need for intelligent home monitoring and management systems and ESI’s will be able to meet this need, and capitalise on the industry growth, through their partnership with Nuage Nine.

“The dramatic changes in technology and the addition of comprehensive new home systems have increased the complexity in the digital home which has led to decreased reliability and service challenges, as well as increased costs, for ESIs”, says Nuage Nine president and chief executive Vaughn Petraglia.

“Nuage Nine is dedicated to helping integrators address these issues by providing system monitoring as well as remote error discovery, prediction and resolution all in a system that hides the complexity of the network and solution.”

The Nuage Nine solution includes a central appliance installed at the customer site, web-based monitoring and management software, a digital knowledge base for error prediction, and software to enable error reporting. In addition, Nuage Nine has a team of support engineers to support the ESIs and ensure that the need for truck rolls decreases and service is optimised. Training and certification are also offered on the Nuage Nine solution enabling ESI staff to quickly come up to speed on remote management of multiple home systems. The Nuage Nine systems are easy to install, simple to use with a web-based user interface and automated alerts, and secure through the use of a virtual private network.
