New Onkyo AV receivers with Dolby Atmos and DTS:X

dolbyOnkyo has released two new 7.2 channel AV receivers as part of its 2015 line-up. The new models offer both Dolby Atmos and DTS:X object-based surround sound technologies for an immersive home theatre experience.

The new releases – the TX-NR646 and TX-NR747 – are an extension to the Onkyo Dolby Atmos range of AV receivers. Dolby Atmos produces object-oriented audio playback that can be heard from all directions, resulting in 360 degree, three dimensional sound. The audio effects move around the room as they would in real life, creating a lifelike home theatre experience. For example, users can hear a bullet shooting past or feel the vibrations of an earthquake underneath their feet.

The new AV receivers are compatible with DTS:X technology, the next generation audio codec from DTS. Similar to Dolby Atmos, DTS:X delivers object-based audio for a heightened multi-dimensional effect. Unlike Dolby Atmos, DTS:X enables users to enjoy a lifelike cinematic experience without the confines of using a specific audio configuration. Users are free to set-up their speaker layout to suit their unique needs. A firmware upgrade for DTS:X will be available in the second half of 2015.

Other advanced audio features include high-current amplification, allowing the TX-NR646 and TX-NR747 to produce soundtracks with maximum impact at 160 watts per channel and 175 watts per channel, respectively.

Both models support 4K UltraHD video at 60 frames per second for spectacular image quality. These models each offer eight HDMI terminals including dedicated HDCP 2.2*   compatible inputs for premium 4K content, and two HDMI inputs for video in separate rooms.

Bluetooth and built-in Wi-Fi connectivity allows users to stream music wirelessly through the included Onkyo remote app. In addition, users gain access to an extensive selection of high quality tunes from a range of internet streaming services such as Spotify Connect, Tune-in and Deezer. Users can also play music from compatible iOS devices using AirPlay and its free dedicated app.

For a simple set-up process, Onkyo’s proprietary AccuEQ calibration system ensures the surround sound is automatically optimised to suit individual room acoustics and speakers for the best possible listening environment. Ideal for managing fluctuations in usage, the new AV receivers also use Onkyo’s custom high-current power supply, boosting the performance and safeguarding an adequate reserve of power.

The new Onkyo AV receivers will be available from 1 July 2015 from leading consumer electronics retailers.
