Consisting of a paired access point and bridge set, the NP121 system links media equipment to the internet wherever it may be in the house.

Technology buffs know that Ethernet cables are not just for computers any more. Many of our home entertainment appliances are gradually being hooked up to the web and the need for high-speed connectivity is growing.

Equipment such as gaming consoles, Blu-ray players, Foxtel, TiVo, media servers, radios and TVs are all requiring internet access for users to get the most out of them, and that means more Ethernet cables to deal with.

Given that a lot of this equipment doesn’t have built-in WiFi capability, unless you’re lucky enough to have a phone point next to every bit of hardware, you’re going to end up with a lot of Ethernet cables running through the house.

The NetComm NP121 has been designed to remove the need for ad hoc cabling and provide a secure wireless bridge to those devices you need to connect, anywhere in the house.

One of the units (the Wireless Access Point) acts as a standard wireless access point, taking the internet signal from an ADSL/Cable modem and then broadcasting it throughout the home using a powerful 802.11n signal. The second unit (the Client Bridge) receives this signal. It can be placed adjacent to the entertainment equipment and its four Ethernet ports can then be used to connect whatever devices require internet access. With the wireless signal providing the bridge to the internet, there is no need to run extra cabling across the room or restrict placement of equipment to the vicinity of a phone point.

The wireless N300 signal is fast enough for very heavy demands, such as online gaming or media streaming. But even if you’re not a heavy bandwidth user, the two units of the NP121 system can help extend the range of your wireless network, allowing you to use your computer in areas of the home that were difficult to get a signal in before.

True to form, NetComm has made the installation of the NP121 system as hassle free as possible. The units are pre-configured with unique (not standard) network IDs and passwords. This means the two devices can communicate securely right out of the box.

For the early adopters and the home entertainment fans, the NP121 is the ideal way to make the most out of your equipment and the least out of your cables.
