The move further highlights LG’s commitment to providing optimised local content for Australians, and giving users the personalised news and sports experience they desire. The Fox Sports apps are also now available for consumers to start using immediately.

“We’re really pleased to be able to offer such high quality content on our LG Smart TV platform. Viewers expect the best content available, and with such high calibre partnerships we are giving that to them,” says LG home entertainment marketing manager Tim Barnes.

“Fairfax is one of Australia’s leading media companies, while SBS and Fox Sports are two of Australia’s leading broadcasters, and now Australian’s will be able to enjoy some of the best content from these companies in the personalised nature they want from the comfort of their lounge room.”

The partnership with Fairfax will see LG bring digital newspapers to life on their Smart TV’s through a portal that allows users to access the publisher’s content. Whether it’s smh.com.au, theage.com.au, Brisbanetimes.com.au or WAtoday.com.au that you’re looking for, the portal puts the viewer in control and gives them the ability to reach the most relevant content in the fastest way possible through customisation and the power to set preferences.

The portal builds on Fairfax’s online and offline presence, and provides LG Smart TV users with a new, personal and interactive way to enjoy premium content.

“The rapid proliferation of new internet-enabled devices is an important shift in the digital landscape. We are excited to partner with LG on this strategic initiative. The combination of this innovative new platform with our trusted brands and high quality journalism will extend our news experience into the living rooms of many Australians.”

Fairfax Media chief executive and digital publisher Jane Huxley says, “We look forward to continuing this partnership with LG through subsequent releases and will be watching the development and evolution of these new digital platforms with keen interest.”

LG focus on the ultimate cycling fan with the help of SBS

To help the ultimate cycling fan usher in the start of one of world’s greatest sporting events, LG and SBS have announced a new Tour de France app, exclusive to LG Smart TV users, allowing you to follow the excitement from the comfort of your home, over 15,000km away.

The app, which will be available at the beginning of July to coincide with the race start, will allow you to stream the race directly onto your LG Smart TV every night when all the action will be taking place.

Whether it’s action-packed replays, interviews, images or factual information such as maps, distances, stage results, and the latest standings you’re after, the app allows the user to customise their viewing experience and dive straight into the content they want.

“The Tour de France is one of the most exciting and fast paced sports competitions in the world, and we’re excited to be partnering with LG to bring all the action to living rooms all around Australia,” says SBS NSW sales manager Adam Sadler.

“The new and innovative features mean that even though the event is taking place on the other side of the world, and in the middle of the
night our time, viewers need not miss out on anything anymore.”

LG and Fox Sports deliver sports apps for rugby and tennis

Further highlighting LG’s commitment to providing users with premium sports content, the Fox Sports apps, focusing on both rugby and tennis, are now available on the LG Smart TV range. The apps provide full on-demand replays of Grand Slam Tennis and Super Rugby and Tri-Nations rugby content, both integrated with statistics and events to enable users to relive the action the way they choose.

“Fox Sports is excited to see our partnership with LG come to life, bringing interactive sports applications to the Smart TV platform. Our rugby and Grand Slam tennis applications demonstrate our ability to provide integrated products that leverage our market leadership in vision, stats and LG cross-platform distribution,” commented Fox Sports chief operating officer Jon Marquard.

“These products have exceeded our expectations, and we look forward to be able continue our partnership with LG to build additional innovative products in the future.”
