Krix helps turn a garage into a home cinema
West Coast Hi-Fi Midland, an integration company based in Western Australia, has converted a garage into a dream home cinema.
Home owner and cinephile, Sam, has always wanted a home cinema to enjoy movies in the comfort of his own house. He began designing and building his own 9.2.6 room before bringing in professional help. The room is 4.8m long and 4.2m wide, not including the baffle wall. The ceiling is sloped, so the height differs from 2.2 to 2.45m and the riser is 150mm.

The equipment list of the home cinema project included a Krix MX-20, six Krix Phonix 45s, six Krix IC-52s, a 135” screen (2.35:1 aspect ratio), an Anthem AVM70, a Rotel, a ToneWinner, a Yamaha PX8, an Epson 9400, a Zidoo Z1000 Pro, an Apple TV and a Panasonic UB820.
“I love the way it looks. I took a bit of a risk on cladding the room with VJ, which was a pain to execute, particularly with the sloping ceiling, but it looks excellent and, together with the acoustic treatment, is a feature of the room,” Sam says in an interview after the installation.
“The room also sounds incredible. I was worried that I would have problems with bass management in a smaller space but with a great calibration performed by my friend Leo using a MiniDSP and Umik-1, the bass response is fantastic across all three seats.”
