Utilising advanced audio innovations such as a SonoGlass HF/UHF compression driver horn and the latest version of JBL’s classic LE14H LF driver, the S4600 handles the entire musical spectrum with incredible ease and clarity.

“The auditory experience produced by the S4600 transports you to the recording engineer’s chair with every track,” commented Geoff Matthews, CEO of JBL’s Australian distributor, Convoy International. “This beautifully proportioned and flawlessly finished speaker draws on JBL’s rich audio heritage, echoing the classic design, engineering and workmanship of JBL’s most renowned designs from the 1970s and 1980s.”

Key to the S4600’s effortless handling of high frequency sound is a SonoGlass HF/UHF horn, adopted from JBL’s celebrated Project Everest DD66000. This dense, mechanically inert high and ultra high frequency horn with precise Bi-Radial horn flares eliminates unwanted resonances for crystal clear and amazingly detailed highs.

The latest generation of JBL’s LE14H-4 350mm pulp cone woofer serves as the low frequency driver; it is reinforced with proprietary Aqua-Plas to improve rigidity and bass transients. Incorporating materials from JBL’s professional speaker range, this powerful drive unit features 100mm edge-wound voice coil, SFG magnetic circuit and low-distortion Neodymium ring magnet.

For improved handling of even the deepest frequencies, the S4600 features a flared, rear-mounted Bass-Reflex Port, which delivers prodigious levels of natural, heavy weight bass frequencies.

Mid range frequencies are handled by a very special transducer, the 175Nd-3 compression driver. This sophisticated drive unit, also shared with the new 4429 Studio Monitor, features a 50mm titanium diaphragm with bi-radial horn loading. The result is stunning, dynamic and effortless performance across the crucial mid band. A smaller horn loaded compression driver, the 19mm 138Nd, handles frequencies from 8kHz through to a 40kHz (-6dB) giving the S4600 unrivalled transparency and detail across the full spectrum.

To ensure only the purest of signals reaches each of the drive units, low-loss, high-resolution passive crossover network featuring air core inductors and low distortion capacitors. Naturally, the S4600 features high-end inclusions such as floor spikes and bi-wire terminals.

The elegant cabinet is built from rigid and heavily braced MDF with a 25mm reinforced front baffle, which has been carefully constructed to reduce colouration. A floating wire grill frame with acoustically transparent charcoal cloth complements the cherry veneer finish, a nod to the classic styling of JBL’s traditional Hi Fi designs.
