Internode boosts NBN upload speeds in Tasmania

In a move that aligns Internode’s Tasmanian NBN speeds with those proposed for the full national NBN rollout, the upload speed of a 25 megabits per second (Mbps) service automatically increases from 2 Mbps to 5 Mbps. The 50 Mbps service upload speed increases five-fold from 4 Mbps to 20 Mbps while the 100 Mbps services upload speed increases from 8 Mbps to 40 Mbps. The upgrades will commence from Saturday, January 8, and should be complete within two weeks.

This huge boost in upload speeds will greatly enhance the use of high-end services such as videoconferencing and emerging cloud computing applications on the NBN. Internode will provide this upload speed increase at no extra cost, as an automatic upgrade for its NBN customers in Tasmania.

Internode product manager Jim Kellett says this move aligned Internode’s Tasmanian NBN broadband services to speed combinations planned for the National Broadband Network Australia-wide.

“The great news is that all our NBN customers benefit automatically,” he says.

“All current services get an instant upload speed increase at no additional cost. A key benefit of these faster upload speeds is that they better support new and emerging applications, such as high definition IP videoconferencing.

“Faster upload speeds also improve the performance of telecommuting via Internet virtual private networks, and support emerging business demands for cloud computing and networked data storage. Even general Internet usage like file downloads may be improved by faster upload speeds.”
