HAL CA6.2 multi-room AV controller
Calling on the experience of products past and present , the continued growth of digital media and trends in control interfaces, the CA6.2 meets the demands of low level to high level users and integrators.
The CA6.2 is built on HAL’s new “DISCOVERY” platform, labeled so because the open ended hardware architecture and software operating system can instinctively discover and command various devices across a network. It also serves as the platform for the interface to the user and integrator be it via web application or visual display aid such as a keypad, touchscreen or display. Central to the “DISCOVERY” platform is the main CPU that includes the following:
• 32 Bit RISC Processor with real time clock
• 210 MIPS @ 150 MHZ
• On board 16 bit stereo audio DAC
• LCD, YUV, RGB support
• Ethernet 10/100 MBPS interface
• I²C and serial comms
• External memory interface
New and enhanced features from the benefit of this platform include:
• Web server control interface—for use with smart phones and any other device on the network locally or remotely
• TCP/IP as well as serial control
• Automatic detection of HAL G-Net devices enhancing automation interface capabilities with HAL RS232, Relay and Digital I/O modules.
• AV control via HAL light switches automatically on G-Net
• Digital media streaming direct to the internal source matrix with optional support of both audio and video if required—all popular CODEC’s supported
• LIRC—Linux IR learning and transmission

Many of the philosophies behind the CA6.2 have come from HAL Engineers and sales staff experience in the field. Features such as two local source inputs per zone have always been a feature of HAL products and continue here, as does zone control of IR that enables users to press a single button and have visual devices integrate seamlessly with AV selection and/or zone power. HAL AV amplifiers have always been lauded for their performance and the CA6.2 has its main amplifier board coupled to the chassis for excellent heat dispersion that also allows simple access for bridging channels if required.
As a modular based unit the amplifier board can be removed with no effect on the remainder of the product making it saleable as a multi zone processor only.
Pre-amp outputs can also be software assigned as fixed or variable. Multiple digital I/O triggers have also been added to enhance the products use with third party amplifiers, motorized blinds, screens and lifts and intercom systems.
HAL’s original “System 40” multi room AV system utilised a single cable run in a bus configuration to carry four balanced audio sources, RS485, IR and power to the remote amplifiers. Utilising several of the cores to carry power HAL Engineers were able to get incredible performance from amplifiers local to a zone with a single proprietary cable run. The same technology exists as an option in the CA6.2 which enables customers to add “real” zones modularly at the head end with a minimum of fuss and a reduced cost. Rather than buying an entire six zone unit clients can purchase one—four RA-1’s to grow their system.
