The solution includes GCT’s GDM7215, the industry’s first single-chip supporting both mobile WiMAX IEEE 802.16e Wave 2 and WiFi 802.11 b/g, and Green Packet’s Intouch Connection Manager (CM) software. Green Packet’s software combines intelligent connection management, seamless connectivity between different network environments, and lifestyle value added services into a single client.

The collaboration offers a powerful combined solution allowing end-users to roam seamlessly between WiFi and WiMAX. This combined solution is ideally suited for mobile portable devices including netbooks, smartphones, mobile Internet devices (MIDs), etc.

Green Packet and GCT are showcasing their solution at the WiMAX Forum Congress Asia (WFCA) in Singapore on April 28 and 29, at booth 83. GCT is also a sponsor of the Live WiMAX Network Tour (LWNT) held in conjunction with WFCA. The LWNT will provide attendees with the opportunity to enjoy Packet One (P1) live WiMAX connectivity on the move in a real-life metropolitan environment in Johor Bahru, Malaysia. The collaborative effort of GCT and GP will offer attendees the experience of seamless mobility between WiFi and WiMAX, which promises uninterrupted connectivity while on the go.

Dr. Kyeongho Lee, President and CEO of GCT Semiconductor said, “GCT and Green Packet are working closely together to offer a combined solution that supports WiFi and WiMAX connectivity on a single-chip. We’re very pleased to be combining our expertise to further advance the development of WiMAX technologies and complement WiMAX and WiFi networks.”

Kelvin Lee, Senior General Manager of Green Packet Berhad said, “Mobile broadband is no longer just an idea on paper or a vision for the future. Being always connected is now a reality. With Green Packet’s Intouch CM, users enjoy uninterrupted connections as the solution intelligently and transparently switches between WiMAX and WiFi according to connectivity rules set by the user or the operator.”

GCT and Green Packet have a long relationship of working together to deliver solutions to the WiMAX market. P1, a subsidiary of Green Packet, recently launched ‘Wiggy’, a WiMAX dongle enabled by GCT’s GDM7205. GCT’s GDM7205 is the industry’s first mobile WiMAX 2.3GHz single chip solution, including RF, MAC and PHY all into one monolithic integrated circuit.
