Focusrite releases the ISA C8X, a studio-grade interface built for modern workflows
Focusrite has released the ISA C8X, an audio interface to position itself as a next-generation centrepiece for professional studios.
Designed as a 2U rack-mounted USB-C interface, the ISA C8X delivers a comprehensive 26-input, 28-output configuration alongside eight remote-controlled microphone preamps. Two of these features are the ISA transformer design, offering up to 79dB of gain and the distinctive tonal character that has defined the series since its origins in the 1980s.

With 24-bit/192kHz conversion and up to 125dB of dynamic range, the system is engineered to capture detailed recordings while maintaining flexibility across complex studio environments.
Through Focusrite Control 2 software, users can remotely adjust preamp gain, routing and monitoring from desktop or mobile devices, removing the need to constantly interact with the hardware unit. This level of control is particularly valuable in multi-room studios or immersive production environments where physical access to rack gear can be limited.
The interface also introduces multichannel Auto Gain, allowing engineers to set optimal input levels across all eight preamps simultaneously, an advantage for time-sensitive sessions such as drum tracking or live recordings.
Tonally, the ISA C8X expands creative options with fully analogue processing modes. Console mode introduces subtle saturation and low-end weight, while 430 Air mode enhances high-frequency clarity, giving engineers additional shaping tools without relying on plugins.
ADAT expansion enables up to 16 additional channels, while S/PDIF, MIDI and Word Clock connections position the unit as a hub for larger studio setups. Twelve balanced line outputs support everything from stereo monitoring through to immersive formats like 7.1.4, reflecting the growing demand for spatial audio production.
Beyond recording, the ISA C8X is also suited to permanent installations and hybrid workflows. Eight fixed-gain line inputs allow outboard gear to remain permanently connected, reducing setup time between sessions and supporting more streamlined studio operation.
