Do I need an equipment rack? Where do I put one?
There is no doubt that you can place your AV system components almost anywhere, but it is recommended that these systems are installed in a fixed enclosure, such as an equipment rack, to help to ensure the safety of your equipment and make the system easy to access.
When planning your home theatre design, consider mounting your equipment on a suitable equipment rack either on the side of the room or a back wall. Just be careful as to what is on the other side of the wall, as the heat dissipation can cause problems, particularly to perishable items (i.e. food).
Whatever option you choose, make sure you still have full remote control access to your AV equipment from the main viewing position in order to adjust your home theatre system for best performance.

In its simplest form, rack systems acts as a cabinet with shelves to store your AV equipment. However, today’s racks and mounts have evolved beyond that. The more elaborate rack solutions found in advanced home theatre installations form a system in itself and can act as accessories for power distribution, thermal protection and cable management.
