The AVR-2809 is equipped with the latest decoders to allow playback of the most recent HD audio formats such as Dolby True HD and DTS-HD Master Audio, allowing the user to experience true uncompressed, open and spacious sound when connected to HD sources such as Blu-Ray.

To ensure that these new audio formats are delivered with total accuracy and fidelity, the Denon engineers have included their new DDSC-HD (Dynamic Discrete Surround Circuit – High Definition) which is a proprietary technology that employs the use of dual SHARC 32 bit DSPs as well as a newly designed Master clock CPU to optimise the digital processing capacity of the AVR-2809. Add Denon’s own AL24 processing Plus circuit for the ultimate in PCM decoding and the AVR-2809 becomes a master of all digital audio formats.

Its 115W of wideband audio amplification from all seven channels means these latest HD audio formats can be enjoyed to their full potential. You can also employ Denon’s optional ASD 11R, ASD3N and ADS3W docking stations to integrate your iPod with your home theatre system.

Notable differences over previous models are four ‘in’ and one ‘out’ HDMI switching to allow connection to a much greater range of HD sources, plus video up-conversion to HDMI as well as scaling to 1080p of all analogue video inputs. This means you only need one HDMI cable from the Denon AVR-2809 to your HD display. It is both the video and audio processing capability including HDMI V1.3 Deep Colour Support and XV Colour that sets the AVR-2809 apart from its competitors.

XV Colour is the latest colour standard that refers to the colour space of the picture and determines the range of colours that can be represented. As an example, XV Colour determines how many shades of blue can be seen and allows for 1.8 times more colour gradient than the previous YCC (Component) colour standard.

Deep Colour Compatibility technology processes the primary colours such as red, green and blue signals in 10-bit or 12-bit blocks instead of earlier 8-bit technologies. This higher bit technology eliminates a distortion effect known as banding and requires extra bandwidth to transfer the video signal to your TV or display monitor, including HDMI V1.3 connects and cable.

The video section features Faroudja’s DCDi video processing and up-conversion with full 1080p scaling of all incoming analogue video, and 3 x wideband HD component video inputs offering Composite, S-Video and Component to HDMI up-conversion, while HDMI signals pass through the 4 x HDMI V1.3a inputs unaltered. It’s the combination of these and Denon’s High Picture Quality Circuitry that enhances enjoyment of any video source with amazing quality.

Ample ‘connectivity’ options are featured in the AVR-2809 including a front panel audio/video input for quick and easy connecting of camcorders and game systems. Fifty-six AM/FM pre-sets give access to all your favourite radio stations, while the handy remote offers glow-in-the-dark buttons and controls not only the receiver but TV, DVD players and Blu-ray players from almost any manufacturer.

The AVR-2809 offers a suite of Audyssey’s sound enhancing features including; MultEQ, Dynamic Volume, and Dynamic EQ. Audyssey’s MultEQ uses a microphone (supplied with all Denon’s A/V receivers) to measure your exact room acoustics pattern and make individual equalization adjustments to each speaker so that the home theatre system is acoustically matched to your living environment. The end result is a much broader listening area so that all the family can now enjoy the ‘sweet spot’ of home theatre. This technology also creates three EQ patterns for your individual home theatre environments; Audyssey which is designed to give the best results for listening to movies, Flat which gives the best results when listening to music and a By-pass setting which equalises everything but your main stereo speakers.

Audyssey’s Dynamic Volume, is a technology that overcomes the varying volume levels of different sources and program material when listening to the home theatre. One example is Pay TV advertising where the volume of the commercial relative to the actual program is boosted – causing the user to reach for the remote control and turn it down. This technology uses the latest digital circuitry to make continual adjustments based on the room’s acoustics to ‘level the volume’ of all sources and programs. As a result, the dialogue is more intelligible, loud passages maintain impact, while soft whispers are clearly heard. Dynamic EQ, an integral part of Dynamic Volume also makes sure the relative balance of the original sound mix will be retained even at lower volume levels.

Another new feature is the company’s Compressed Audio Restorer circuitry that restores the compressed audio signal employed in formats such as MP3, AAC and WMA to as close as possible to the original by using the latest in digital restoration technology. Not just designed for iPods, Denon’s Compressed Audio Restorer will work on Network audio and also recommended when listening to your AM/FM radio broadcasts. This is a considerable upgrade over traditional dynamic compression techniques or ‘night modes’.

The AVR-2809 multi room feature will allow operation into 3 zones with independent audio signals and volume in all 3 zones as well as composite video into zone 2. These signals can be accessed via independent Zone Pre amp outputs for use with external amplifiers or a soundbar or if the user is happy with a 5.1 channel system in the main room then the unused Surround back amplifiers can be assigned to drive either zone 2 or 3 in stereo or both zones with a mono signal.

The AVR-2809 also comes with a second ‘simpler designed’ remote providing for the extra zones. The AVR-2809 is also equipped with an RS232 serial port for connection to many 3rd party control systems as well as the Denon RC7000/7001 RF remote control (optional) for complete 2 way communication between your receiver and remote. To complete the custom installation features, Denon have also included IR in and out ports for connection to an infra red repeater system and 2 x 12 volt triggers for remote switching.

The new AVR-2809 is manufactured in Japan, comes with full three year warranty and is available in Premium Silver and Black.

The Denon AVR-2809, has an RRP of $2,499 and is available at selected Denon dealers. For further information on the AVR-2809 or other Denon products contact 1300 134 400 or visit www.denon.com.au.
