Crestron makes it easy to control circadian lighting

Crestron announced today that its commercial lighting customers are now a touch away from easy command of their circadian lighting solutions.

Manipulation of artificial light as the primary circadian stimulus in buildings that meet the WELL Building Standard is a hot trend in architectural lighting and Crestron circadian lighting solutions ensure those lighting control systems perform to specification and are easy to use.

Crestron control systems and graphical user interfaces, such as touch screens, desktop or mobile apps, enable users to control the colour, intensity, and dosage of light in their space to elicit a particular circadian effect. Features including graphical colour pickers and user selectable time clock events enable people to understand and get the most out of their tuned environment.

“Research suggests that automatically adjusting the colour temperature and intensity of light to synchronise with the natural circadian rhythm can create an optimal environment and trick our bodies,” said Crestron director for commercial lighting Nathan Dietrich.

In office spaces circadian lighting control can encourage greater concentration, productivity, and creativity among workers, while in healthcare environments it can promote faster healing, which results in faster patient out-time, and cost savings. In classrooms it can lead to improved student behaviour and concentration, and in hotels it can help guests acclimate their natural body rhythms to local time and mitigate the effects of jet lag during the day.

In addition to the physical benefits, the new WELL Building Standard provides building owners and managers cost-saving deployment guidelines for building features that impact health and well being, including lighting.

“Circadian research may be complicated but the implementation of a circadian solution is not. Crestron circadian solutions ensure that the pieces, parts, protocols, wiring, and software work together to meet project objectives,” says Nathan.
