Chowmainsoft releases Control4 driver for VIZIO SmartCast TVs

Chowmainsoft has released a driver providing native Control4 integration for VIZIO televisions running SmartCast (ViziOS), enabling bi-directional IP control over a local network without requiring IR emitters, third-party software or additional hardware.

The driver communicates directly with the television through VIZIO’s SmartCast API and supports power, volume, mute and input selection, with feedback reflecting changes made using the television’s own remote control. It also supports Wake-on-LAN, automatic API port detection and secure pairing using a PIN displayed on the television.

Users can select HDMI inputs, SmartCast, the antenna tuner and Component, as well as tune television channels directly and access channel navigation, playback and remote-control commands.

The driver also provides feedback on the currently running app and allows users to launch SmartCast apps. A Control4 apps menu enables browsing and launching apps through navigator, while support for universal mini apps allows up to 50 mini apps per television.

An included VIZIO custom app driver allows individual SmartCast apps to be added as separate sources, supporting up to 25 custom app drivers per television. A quick start action can also be enabled to allow the television to power on over the network.
