CEDIA has launched its latest continuing professional development (CPD) training course for design and build professionals. The Cabling for the Integrated Home CPD will replace the Smart Home Cabling for the Modern Home CPD and aim to secure and future-proof cabling infrastructure.

“With the growing demand for smart technology in the home, greater reliance is being placed on the complex cabling infrastructure needed to support this,” CEDIA EMEA managing director Matt Nimmons says.

“At CEDIA, training is key. This new CPD is a step in the right direction for our members to add value to their professional career and strengthen their skills, as well as giving them an opportunity to connect with and build strong relationships with the design and build community.

“Our new CPD connects the theory with practicalities of the integrated home, making it a vital resource for integrators and specifiers alike.”

The latest CPD will begin by discussing the definition of the smart home before exploring topics including IoT, entertainment, modern building methods, bandwidth and smart home wiring infrastructure.

Accredited by The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) and the British Institute of Interior Design (BIID), this CPD will benefit building professionals by developing their understanding and performance in the below areas:

  • Key vocabulary and phrases
  • Basic design principles
  • What is required to cable an ‘integrated home’
  • Key metrics/space
  • When to ask for guidance or professional assistance

As a recognised CEDIA Outreach Instructor (COI), integrators have the opportunity to reach out to local design and build industry partners, establishing B2B contacts and raising awareness of CEDIA and what it does.

The COI course content includes an introduction to the program, a review of the available courseware and a discussion of the rules and requirements for presenting under CEDIA’s education provider umbrella.
