CEDIA boot camp puts installers on the right foot
Held at the Association’s training facility in St Neots, the comprehensive three day course gave an invaluable insight for new entrants to the residential custom installation industry.
Introduced as part of a new structure for EST Electronic Systems Technician (Installer) certifications for 2010, the residential boot camp is an intensive course designed to help those new to custom installation acquire the fundamental knowledge and skills necessary to get started.
“We work within an industry that is dynamic, exciting and attractive to outsiders. At CEDIA we are committed to both maintaining the professional integrity of this industry and to helping it grow through the cultivation of new talent. This latest course introduces new installers to CEDIA and our education offering and gives them a grounding in the core skills required to get a foot in the door,” explains CEDIA education manager, Peter Aylett.

“The EST1 Boot Camp is invaluable for anyone looking to move into the CI business,” says John Barrie, who was among the first to take the course.
Fellow delegate, Luke Dyson agreed, “This course has clarified many unanswered questions and should aid me greatly in finding future career opportunities.”
“A thoroughly enjoyable course,” adds Philip Turner. “The presenter conveyed the information clearly and in a friendly manner.”
Created as a three day training course, EST1 is targeted towards junior electronic systems technicians who need to understand basic site safety, protocol, cable handling and cable termination. Upon completion of the course, attendees will receive a certificate (although this is not certification as there is no exam) and should also have enough knowledge to pass the JIB health and safety exam, which leads to the award of a JIB ECS (Electrotechnical Certification Scheme) card.
Delivered by CEDIA certified instructors, this course includes both classroom instruction and hands-on training. The next CEDIA technician residential EST boot camp will run from June 2-4.
