Bowers & Wilkins Mini Theatre range of home theatre speakers and subwoofers
The new, radically updated and upgraded Mini Theatre series comprises three systems: MT-60D, MT-55 and MT-50. These systems provide users with a remarkably immersive listening experience, in relatively compact, discreet packages that fit easily into people’s lifestyles.
Significant improvements in key elements within these new systems result in an impressive uplift in performance, including improved detail, better bass performance, and significantly enhanced integration between the subwoofers and the satellite speakers.
All three systems offer excellent performance, but the MT-60D sets new standards for compact home theatre solutions. This jump in quality is a result of partnering an upgraded M-1 loudspeaker with the new and improved PV1D, B&W’s ground-breaking, opposed-drive-unit subwoofer, which has been a perennial best-seller since its 2004 launch. The MT-50 is a direct replacement for the popular MT-25 system, and sees the new M-1s partnered with the ASW608 subwoofer. The MT-55 offers a balance of performance and value, substituting the larger, more powerful ASW610 for the ASW608.

The versatile and accomplished new M-1 loudspeaker is a central feature in all three packages, filling the role of main, centre and surround speakers. It’s also a great stereo solution, as one of the most noticeable improvements from the outgoing M-1 is this speaker’s full range performance: it now offers a stereo performance comparable to other stand-alone bookshelf models.
In order to achieve these improvements the M-1 has undergone a complete internal redesign, although only subtle styling differences are visible externally. It features all new drive units, including a tube-loaded tweeter, and a bass/midrange driver that uses the new Anti-Resonance Plug first seen on the high-end PM1 loudspeaker.
As well as these acoustic improvements, the mechanics of the M-1 have been updated, with improved speaker cable terminations and a
more robust connection to the stands – a table-top stand and wall bracket are supplied in the box, while the FS – M1 Floor Stand is available as an optional extra.
The PV1D retains the iconic, acoustically principled Pressure Vessel shape of its highly successful predecessor, but takes a giant leap forward by moving to the digital platform developed for the flagship Bowers & Wilkins DB1 subwoofer. This provides increased flexibility and performance enhancements that, coupled with new drive units and amplification, lead to radically improved output. It delivers deeper and faster bass than the previous model, and is equally at home with both music and movie soundtracks.
The PV1D’s front-panel OLED display and touch button array provide easy access to a number of pre-sets and tuning options, while a custom version of the SubApp PC software provides more advanced set-up options. Subtle styling updates and new finishes bring the PV1D right up to date.
The final members of the new Mini Theatre family are the ASW608 and ASW610 subwoofers.
While these models retain their current design and specification, the ASW608 is now also available in the same modern matte white finish as the M-1 loudspeakers. Both ASW608 and ASW610 are available in matte black.
Mini Theatre launches in Australia in June 2012, with the arrival of M1, MT50 and MT55. The MT60D and PV1D have an ETA of August 2012.
