Spontaneous kindness?

Are you as nice as you used to be? Or, are you expecting your clients to just buy from you because that’s what they have done in the past?

Do you assume your market is yours and yours alone? Are you one of the indentured royalty?

Even worse, have you convinced yourself that you are working really hard, and that you alone can do what you do?

Do you expect your customers to continue to show you kindness, and give you all their loyalty, even while you don’t keep in touch with them?

Our customers show us kindness by electing to purchase from us, they are voting with their wallets. Do they feel your ‘kindness’?

More importantly, how do they feel your kindnees?

Do you think you are showing your kindness just by answering a phone call or spending a few moments describing a new technology (then charging them for your services and expertise)?

Crap. Even the cable company and bail-bondsman does that.

Here are few low cost and low tech ways to inject kindness into your base of buyers that delivers value for them.

  • Keep them informed – and this is not an email every week with a desperate plea to deposit their money into your bank account. Nor is it fire-hosing their inbox with ‘specials of the day’. No kidding here. We all see these in our own inbox each day; and email with the subject line “3 deals of the week/day/month”, or “buy now and get a set of ginsu knives for just $14.95”. Now, there is nothing wrong with offering deals, but if you are continually pleading for new business, you are not delivering value. You come off desperate.
  • Thank them. This can be a quick note sent in the mail, or a gift card for Starbucks. Just send the message every once in a while that they and their business are the reason you are still viable.
  • Invite them to an event at the shop to check out new technologies. Show the next control system, or 4K or whatever. Not in a pitchy way, but in the same way they would experience a museum tour.
  • Send them to a baseball, basketball or collage game, or to a traveling Broadway show.
  • Send new batteries for their remotes. Most of us never have the right size when needed. Remotes today are remarkably efficient, and people don’t think about changing them out – so do it for them.
  • Use the Weld relationship engine (notice the nice transition to a pitch?) to keep your all your contacts informed about many of the interesting arenas offered in technology. But if you do not use us, use one of the others that offer newsletter services or write your own.

We know this though “Doing nothing … uh … does nothing”.
