BenQ launches DLP 4K UHD LED home cinema projectorBenQ today introduced its new digital home cinema projector X12000, a 4K UHD projector that balances the wide-gamut high-brightness output of Philips ColorSpark HLD LEDs with CinematicColor Technology to accurately produce the DCI-P3 colour space.

Defined by the digital film industry, the DCI-P3 colour gamut encompasses a larger portion of the visible colour spectrum, providing more colours than Rec. 709 and sRGB. It features 8.3 million distinct pixels to fully meet Consumer Technology Association’s (CTA) 4K UHD specification and delivers the authentic experience of attending a commercial digital cinema.

“The meeting of two pinnacles of visual technology, X12000’s pioneering CinematicColor Technology harnesses the high output of ColorSpark HLD LED Technology to bring DCI-P3 colour quality into the home cinema. DCI-P3 is the colour standard of DLP digital cinema, derived from the same technology in use at all IMAX auditoriums worldwide,” said BenQ Corporation president Conway Lee.

Philips ColorSpark HLD LED technology provides a wide colour gamut with up to three times screen brightness. It combines green light four times as bright as conventional green LEDs from its High Lumen Density phosphor module with high-brightness red and blue LEDs to generate 2,200 lumens of brightness for use in well-lit rooms.

X12000’s CinematicColor Technology hones this wider colour gamut and higher brightness to produce the expansive DCI-P3 colour gamut.

Single-DMD DLP technology preserves precise colour accuracy and image integrity without artefacts caused by panel misalignment, particularly important for 4K pixels which are much finer than 1080p. The projector’s sophisticated 4K optical system has 14 high-resolution elements, a true zoom system and special low-dispersion lens coatings.

The X12000 features a streamlined design, with sleek front-facing ventilation and unobstructed port architecture that provides ample space to accommodate thick high-quality cables and HDMI / power cable locks to secure them in place. It also has H/V lens shift and 1.5X big zoom to fit into home cinemas of any size.

The X12000 is powered by Digital Light Processing, the 2015 Academy Award of Merit Oscar winning technology used in 90% of the world’s digital cinemas. It delivers long-lasting DLP picture quality with precise colours and razor-sharp clarity, as well as a maintenance-free LED light source.
