Award-winning efficiency

The results exceeded expectations, not only in the energy efficiencies achieved, but in winning the 2009 NECA (National Electrical and Communications Association) Victorian and National Awards for the best Domestic Residence installation.

The client’s design brief was for a family home offering convenience, style, safety and energy efficiency. Having seen the value and capabilities of home automation modelled in Jeremy’s own home, the owners insisted that a Clipsal C-Bus Home Automation System was exactly what they wanted for their new home.

The majority of electrical products used for this project were Clipsal and included C-Bus Slimline and Saturn switches as well as Clipsal Multi Room Audio and StarServe home networking.

“Everything was automated – from the blinds, to the lifts for the plasma TVs that retract into the ceiling space when not in use, all controlled by C-Bus. It’s awesome!” Jeremy says.

C-Bus allowed the home to offer the family convenience via means of scheduling certain events that take place at a preset time, or automatic activities that are triggered by movement, temperature and light levels.

Motorised windows, blinds and curtains offer practicality and also improve living environments by automatically adjusting to natural light levels and air temperature. This allows residents to live with the perfect amount of ambient light, air flow and temperature. In summer, windows and curtains automatically open in the morning to allow air flow and light. As the outside temperature increases the windows close. As sunlight increases, the blinds automatically close.

The owners didn’t want to be constantly nagging their children to switch the lights off and insisted upon Clipsal’s PIR range of Infrascan sensors. Perfect for corridors, bathroom areas and bedrooms, Clipsal Infrascan sensors are designed to conveniently and economically control lighting by turning lights on when people enter the room and off as they leave.

Overall, this six month residential project was a huge success, with the homeowners impressed with the electrical work and design inside their new home. A year later the owners are also amazed by the energy savings from their electricity bill (compared to their previous home), thanks to the clever use of Clipsal sensors and the C-Bus Home Automation System.
