AV Technology celebrates 25 years

Founded by Kevin Chatfield in 1987, AV Technology began as an audiovisual integration company in Melbourne at the beginning of the AV industry as we know it today.  Identifying an opportunity in the market and beginning a life-long passion for the audiovisual industry and control systems, Kevin began distributing York control systems in February 1988.

Some three years later, York was acquired by AMX and AV Technology became the sole distributor of AMX in Australia and New Zealand.  In 1991 Kevin made the then brave move to cease the systems integration business of AV Technology and focus specifically on distribution, a decision which saw the creation of one of the first true audiovisual distribution companies in Australia.

In 1995, Kevin relocated AV Technology from Melbourne to Queensland’s Gold Coast and began the expansion of the company.  Representing brands including Altinex, Kramer, Dynalite and Tandberg, the company continued to grow. With the merging of the company’s two biggest brands, AMX & AutoPatch, AV Technology proudly re-branded to AMX Australia and AMX New Zealand in January 2007.

In the subsequent five years, AMX Australia & AMX New Zealand has grown exponentially, adding offices and AMX University Training Centres in Sydney & Melbourne to the existing Auckland operation. We have more than doubled the local staff to significantly increase our support of AMX dealers, AMX end-users and consultants. The founding principles, passion & dedication that drove Kevin to found AV Technology 25 years ago continue to sustain the company today.

“I am immensely proud to surpass the 25 year milestone in what promises to be another record-breaking year.” said AV Technology founder Kevin Chatfield.  “2012 has already seen the opening of new premises in Port Melbourne and Lane Cove, Sydney, an expansion of our sales team, technical specialist staff and regional training facilities. We plan to replicate this expansion in our New Zealand operation this financial year.  The culmination of companies acquired by AMX in the past 6 years into the current Enova series is delivering excellent results and the new Modero X panels are simply game-changing. 25 years on and there have never been more exciting times. I would like to thank our valued partners, end-user customers and specialist consultants for their contribution to our continued success and look forward to the next chapter of the digital evolution.”
