Auralex fine-tunes acoustics in Ednetics’ new multi-purpose space

Ednetics, a leading provider of network-based technology solutions for the education market, created a multi-purpose space to showcase its wide range of technology capabilities. Auralex’s ELiTE Custom Fabric System (ELiTE-CFS), a proprietary, fully-engineered acoustical treatment system, was the ideal solution both acoustically and aesthetically.

Ednetics built a demo classroom and theatre space to host customer demos and illustrate its AV capabilities. The multi-purpose space was also created to function as a venue for training seminars as well as company events throughout the year. Because the room has multiple functions, the seating layout is flexible. This enables the room to change from a town hall-type setup with podiums and row seating to a home theatre setup. Several floor boxes were installed for computer and component inputs, making it easy to maximise the room’s versatility.

“We understood from the beginning that high-quality acoustics, while often overlooked, transform a multimedia presentation into a state-of-the art sensory experience,” says Ednetics account representative Mark Kison.

“Auralex was instrumental in the design process. The solution they installed for us is absolutely outstanding.”

Acoustics were considered very early on in the project. The space was designed with areas designated specifically for acoustical treatment. The main acoustical challenges were a combination of flutter echoes between the hard parallel surfaces and troublesome low-frequency standing waves. Auralex proposed its ELiTE-CFS, a custom-tailored, fully engineered system that provides the acoustical control required in a critical listening environment. Aesthetics were another design factor in this installation. Auralex ELiTE-CFS provided a clean, finished look while concealing additional acoustical treatment under the fabric. Auralex placed 2″ SonoFiber, its 1′x1′x1″ DST-R reflector panels and its 4″ Mineral Fiber underneath the fabric-wrapped system for added absorption, diffusion and bass trapping.

Auralex was faced with working around the light fixtures that were installed throughout the space. Auralex Elite-CFS once again proved to be the best solution, as the system can be custom cut to accommodate to this requirement. Auralex incorporated four SubDudes under each Klipsch THX-Ultra2 KW-120-THX subwoofer as part of the room’s 13.4 surround sound system, which features five Klipsch KL-650-THX speakers, four Klipsch KL-525-THX speakers, four Klipsch KS-525-THX speakers and four Klipsch KW-120-THX subwoofers.

“Sound is such a key component to the classroom experience,” continues Kison.

“We wanted to create an experience that included incredible sound quality. Auralex was a big part of that equation.”
