The new Gold Series by Monitor Audio has just been announced by A Plus Brands, which is part of the Interdyn Group. The fifth generation of the Gold Series is on its way to Australian shores, and will be exclusively available at selected hi-fi partners at the end of February.

The series includes features first developed for the flagship Platinum II series. The Micro Pleated Diaphragm (MPD) high frequency transducer moves like a super-fast accordion to produce a smooth, wide, naturally fast response up to 100kHz, far higher than conventional dome tweeters can manage.

The bass drivers used on the Gold 200 and 300 models and the Gold C250 also feature a unique construction pioneered in the development of the Platinum II series. Like the other drivers in Monitor Audio’s range, Rigid Diaphragm Technology (RDT II) uses Monitor Audio’s C-CAM for the front skin, while the rear skin is made from a woven carbon fibre material. In between is a Nomex core material in a honeycomb pattern, which is both incredibly light and incredibly strong, meaning that it can respond with great speed without bending. The new structure reduces distortion by over 8dB above 300Hz.

Gold 100 | Bookshelf Speakers

The only stand mounting speaker of the series, the Gold 100 combines a 6.5″ (165mm) C-CAM mid/bass driver, MPD high-frequency transducer and a rear-facing HiVe II port in a compact cabinet. This two-way loudspeaker sounds a lot bigger than it is; because of its adaptability it has a greater bass presence than seems feasible.

Gold 200 | Floorstanding Speakers

The three-way design of the Gold 200 features two 6.5″ (165mm) RDT II bass drivers beneath a 2.5″ (64mm) C-CAM mid-range driver with a MPD high-frequency transducer module, backed up by dual rear-firing HiVe II ports.

Gold 300 | Floorstanding Speakers

The deceptively large cabinet of the Gold 300 houses a 2.5″ (64mm) C-CAM mid-range driver with a MPD high-frequency transducer above and a pair of 8″ (203mm) RDT II bass drivers below, in a true three-way arrangement. Also featuring a pair of rear-facing HiVe II ports delivering smooth airflow and ample bass reinforcement, Gold 300 is the ideal speaker for larger rooms.

Gold C250 | Centre Channel Speaker

Thanks to the compact dimensions of the 2.5″ (64mm) C-CAM mid-range driver with a MPD high-frequency transducer module, and the 6.5″ (165mm) RDT II bass drivers either side, Gold C250 is a three-way design without the big footprint you might expect. Its wide dispersion characteristics make it a wide-screen listen, and it’s adaptable enough to sit happily between any of the speakers in the Gold Series.

Gold FX | Surround Speakers

Able to pack in two MPD high-frequency transducers and two 4″ (100mm) mid/bass C-CAM drivers, Gold FX can be flush-mounted and can function in either bi-pole or di-pole modes at the flick of switch.

Gold W12 | Subwoofer

The Gold W12 Subwoofer holds a 12″ (305mm) long-throw driver which is reinforced by a pair of Auxiliary Bass Radiators (ABR) and powered by 600W of Class D amplification. The power and scale this combination are capable of generating can be felt just as easily as it can be heard, thanks to its prodigious 20Hz bass extension. Gold W12 has a number of fine-tuning options, and thanks to Monitor Audio’s Automatic Position Correction (APC) system, the subwoofer can work at its optimum no matter where it’s positioned.

Gold 5.1 | Speaker System

The Gold W12 subwoofer, Gold FX speaker and the Gold C250 are combined in the Gold 5.1 system to create a cinematic experience in the home.
