Axis previews 360° AI radar for perimeter security
Axis Communications has unveiled its AXIS D2124-VE Radar, a 360° radar designed to provide AI-powered object classification across large surveillance areas.
The AXIS D2124-VE Radar can detect humans at distances of up to 140m and covers an area of up to 40,000m². It uses AI-powered object classification to distinguish between people and other objects across its detection area.

Built on Axis’ ARTPEC-9 platform, the radar features box-shaped detection and recognition zones to simplify coverage planning. It can also be paired with the AXIS Q6225-LE PTZ Camera and AXIS Radar Autotracking for PTZ to provide automated visual verification.
The combined system enables radar and video double-knock verification, with both technologies required to confirm a detection before an alarm is triggered. Axis says this can reduce false alarms and the need for manual verification.
The radar provides access to data from both the radar and connected PTZ camera, supporting security teams with additional information for responding to detected activity.
Four integrated dynamic LED strips can be configured to deter, warn or notify, or switched off for discreet monitoring.
The AXIS D2124-VE Radar has an average power consumption of 14.8W across its full detection area and supports PoE. PoE out can also power an AXIS Q6225-LE PTZ Camera when used with an Axis High PoE 120W midspan, eliminating the need for an additional cable drop.
The radar can be mounted on poles, mobile surveillance trailers and rooftops. Built-in radar image stabilisation is designed to maintain detection accuracy when the device is exposed to vibration, including in windy environments.
“We’re redefining the future of perimeter and area protection by addressing the real-world operational challenges that security teams face every day,” Axis Communications global product manager – radar Niklas Lindman says.
“Traditionally, securing massive areas required complex, multi-sensor deployments that left critical gaps and burdened security teams with constant manual verification. With AXIS D2124-VE Radar, we are introducing a solution that combines comprehensive 360° area coverage with AI-powered object classification to deliver exceptional detection accuracy.”
Axis says the radar is suited to applications including critical infrastructure, industrial sites, remote locations and mobile surveillance installations where broad coverage and power efficiency are important.
