Epson Moverio AR smart glasses used in London National Theatre trialEpson’s Moverio BT-300 AR smart glasses are being used in a trial at London’s National Theatre to enable deaf and hearing-impaired customers to read subtitles in their field of vision when watching any performance.

The trial, which is set to run until October 2018, will see deaf and hearing-impaired customers supplied with Epson Moverio BT-300 AR smart glasses.

Featuring Epson’s silicon-based OLED digital display technology, the Moverio BT-300 enable truly transparent mobile augmented reality (AR) experiences and are lightweight and comfortable enough to be worn throughout a performance.

Users can enjoy the option of changing the positioning, size and colour of the captions to suit their own preferences and the Moverio smart glasses will always maintain the subtitles well within the wearer’s field of vision.

The Moverio smart glasses are powered by a quad core Intel Atom X5 processor and Android 5.1, which enable efficient rendering of complex 3D experiences. They feature an upgraded 5MP front-facing camera and on-board sensors that more precisely determine the location of objects in the real world. The Si-OLED projection system can then seamlessly render and lock 3D content to these objects, with no display background or edges in the field of view.
