sonySony has showcased its new line-up of BRAVIA 4K Ultra HD LCD televisions, designed to enhance image quality and provide greater access to content. The Sony televisions were built with a new 4K Processor X1 chip which optimises clarity, colour accuracy and contrast, providing a viewing experience unprecedented in 4K UHD TVs. The new X9000C and X9100C series feature a new ultra-thin floating style, making it Sony’s thinnest range of TVs yet.

To complement the 4K picture, Sony’s 2015 TVs will be the world’s first range to incorporate High-Resolution Audio compatible speakers. Additionally, for the first time, Sony TVs will support Google’s latest Android TV operating system.

The new models range in size from 49 to 75-inches and include four new series and nine new models. As the industry leader in 4K UHD picture quality, Sony’s commitment to developing technologies to enhance the viewing experience is demonstrated with this line-up. The new 4K Processor X1 chip was built to enrich clarity, colour and contrast. Combined with the advanced 4K X-Reality PRO upscaling algorithm technology, these televisions will analyse and upscale to 4K UHD resolution, providing the best image quality, regardless of the image source.

With screens that provide a 3,840 x 2,160 4K UHD resolution, these products also include TRILUMINOS Display to accurately reproduce shades of red, green and blue. Colours come alive on the screen in the widest colour range ever, and dynamic colour correction ensures colours are as consistent and accurate as possible every single time. Further enhancing the picture quality, these televisions will also be equipped with the critically-acclaimed X-tended Dynamic Range contrast enhancement to provide peak brightness of LED as well as deeper blacks.

Smarter Television Viewing Experience

For the first time, these televisions will support Google’s latest Android TV operating system, making it easy to stream video and function as a gaming device, as well as provide additional features like Google Cast and Voice Search. Google Cast will offer users greater connectivity than ever before by enabling them to cast content from mobile devices. Additionally, Voice Search is available through a remote equipped with a microphone. With access to Google Play, consumers can enjoy what they like to do on a smartphone or tablet, from their television.

Main Features

4K Processor X1 chip

Newly-developed 4K Processor X1 chip enables even more stunning upscaling to 4K resolution and projection of native 4K images. It’s built to handle the increasingly diversifying range of content, including current-generation HD content as well as 4K content distributed in a number of video compression formats. The 4K Processor X1 chip is a comprehensive image enhancement processor capable of taking the three important elements – clarity, colour and contrast – to a whole new level.

  •  Image analysis: The processor closely analyses the resolution and other aspects of the input video signal and processes the image in accordance with the amount of information the signal holds.
  •  Higher image clarity: The processor matches images with an original Sony 4K database, resulting in greater clarity and definition than ever before. Additionally, the new processor will further enhance the capability of the 4K X-Reality PRO algorithm, accurately depicting the detail shapes and dramatically reducing the noise when upscaling video to 4K.
  •  Wide colour gamut: The processor fully brings out the wide palette of colours that the TRILUMINOS Display – which Sony has adopted since 2013 – can produce. Accurate colour management closely analyses the hues, brightness, and saturation of the inputted image and recreates colours in a fuller, more naturally-textured display.
  •  Higher contrast: The new processor efficiently expands the dynamic range of the signal in order to fully realise the potential of X-tended Dynamic Range, which Sony has adopted since 2014. It achieves a more sparkling image than before, with a wider brightness range that features brighter lights and deeper blacks.

Sony Android TV

The new BRAVIA models adopt the Android operating system from Google (US) to provide customers a seamless integrated experience with their mobile devices. Customers can easily enjoy services and apps that they are familiar with on their smartphone through a large Sony TV. Combined with Sony’s unique user interface and One-Flick Entertainment, this provides customers with easy access to a wide variety of content.

  •  Google Cast Ready: Sony has Google Cast built-in so customers can easily cast their favourite content from their smartphone, tablet (Android, iOS) and PC (Windows) directly on to the screen of their large Sony TV.
  •  Voice Search: Voice function on Android TV allows customers to not only search for content across different services but also answer general questions using the most sophisticated search engine from Google. Customers can command their TV so they can spend less time browsing, and more time watching.
  •  By using the same familiar Google ID, customers can discover games, movies, TV shows and more from Google Play. They can also casually enjoy many familiar apps on their smartphone, and have seamless content playback between devices.
  •  The One-Flick Entertainment remote allows customers to access content quickly and intuitively without any interruptions while watching TV.

High-Resolution Audio

In order to provide an overwhelming TV sound experience, the new X9400C/X9300C series are compatible with the world’s first1 High-Resolution Audio playback2 in a standalone TV.

Users are now able to effortlessly enjoy High-Resolution Audio from via a USB drive or networked personal computer.

Furthermore, the X9400C/X9300C series incorporates unique signal processing technology, DSEE HX, which allows a more precise and accurate reproduction of sound.

By analysing the various sound waveforms, such as high range sounds and fluctuating waveforms of musical instruments and vocal sounds, the series is able to upgrade even compressed audio3 of broadcasting and network content equivalent to 96KHz/24bit to further provide an immersive sound experience as if customers are really there.

Sony’s Full HD line-up will also support Google’s latest Android TV operating system.
