The DS-1 is an active loudspeaker with Bluetooth connectivity designed for desktop use which despite its diminutive size features the same outstanding technical and sonic performance expected from any product designed and manufactured by Wharfedale.

Being renowned for its conventional speaker designs, it was crucial for the Wharfedale DS-1 to sound like a Wharfedale speaker should, and to this end Wharfedale’s acoustic engineers (under the ever-watchful eye of Director of Acoustic Design, Peter Comeau) developed completely new drivers for the DS-1 to perfectly complement the electronics used in the DS-1 speakers. These new drivers as well as their amplification are housed in high gloss, hand polished cabinets.

The drivers designed for the DS-1 would be of little value were they not supported by an equally impressive internal amplifier. To this effect Wharfedale has incorporated a new high performance digital amplifier design to power the DS-1 drivers. The digital amplifier incorporates a DSP, the parameters of which were carefully adjusted using both computer modelling and many hours of listening tests to optimise performance of the DS-1.

Technology in the DS-1 does not end with its drivers and amplifiers, as along with exceptional acoustic engineering, the DS-1 incorporates technologies never before seen in a Wharfedale speaker, such as Bluetooth (V4.0) with aptX and NFC (Near Field Communication), as well as a standard 3.5mm rear mounted jack which accepts a standard analogue input. The sonic performance and technologies found in the Wharfedale DS-1 will undoubtedly make them one of the most versatile wireless speaker products on the market at an affordable price.
