Wharfedale’s Diamond Series has had a long history of achievement since its inception in 1981 when the original Diamond speaker (a diminutive bookshelf speaker) took the industry by storm, and, has over the last 32 years become a world-wide best-seller with millions of pairs sold. Every new evolution of the Wharfedale Diamond Series has been eagerly anticipated, and Diamond 100 which is intended to run concurrently with the existing Diamond 10 Series, is no exception.

Diamond 100 Series is, as every great speaker should be, equally suited to audiophile listening and home theatre use, and with a choice of seven different timbre matched models including three floor standing speakers (159, 157 and 155), two book shelf models (122 and 121) and, two centre channel speakers (102C and 101C), Diamond 100 Series speakers can be perfectly matched to both large and small listening environments.

As you would expect from a series with such heritage, Diamond 100 is at the forefront of speaker technology and under the watchful eye of veteran engineer Peter Comeau, Wharfedale’s Head of Acoustic engineering, includes several newly developed Wharfedale technologies.

Foremost in the Wharfedale design criteria is the ongoing research into loudspeaker driver performance, and to that end, the famous Wharfedale Woven Kevlar cone was put under the technology spotlight and given a new profile based on research originally carried out for Wharfedale’s highly acclaimed high-end Jade Series of speakers.

Incorporated in the bass and midrange driver cones are semi-elliptical ‘break-up’ areas which smooth the response throughout the audible range. In addition to this each surround is treated to match the cone edge with a unique ‘Diamond Pattern’ moulding. Finally the dust cap is blended and treated to provide a smooth transition and perfect acoustic match to the treble unit.

The tweeter chosen for Diamond 100 came under equal scrutiny during the development stage and is made of a sheer fabric dome, an advanced ferrite magnet system and the dome is surrounded by a carefully crafted wave guide that encourages outstanding performance.
Cabinet design was not forgotten in amongst all the other technology. Rectilinear cabinet shapes were chosen to maximize the internal volume and provide the deepest, most extended bass response. Again research from the high-end Jade series was incorporated to elicit the latest advance in loudspeaker reflex loading – the Slot-Loaded Distributed Port, derived from the original Wharfedale Aperiodic loading design developed by Wharfedale founder Gilbert Briggs.
